I’ve been working remotely and traveling since 2013, so I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t over many years.

15 working from home tips:
1. Set working hours for yourself.
Even if no one is watching, clear work hours help you manage time, focus on tasks, and mentally “leave” work at the end of the day. Schedule a start time, lunch break, end time, and any other routine breaks you’d normally have. Treating your home workspace like an office helps you get into a productive mindset.
2. Create a dedicated work area.
A specific spot for work makes it easier to separate work and life, stay organized, and concentrate. It sends a clear signal to others in your household that you are working. Your workspace can be a dining table, a spare bedroom, or a home office — a permanent workspace can also have tax advantages in some cases.

3. Exercise regularly.
Remote work can reduce daily movement. Regular exercise keeps you healthy, clears your mind, and refreshes your focus. Try a mid-day jog, a walking break, or a workout before or after your workday.

7. Don’t run errands for others all day long.
People sometimes assume remote workers have free time and request favors. Be realistic about what you can take on. Constantly running errands for others can prevent you from meeting your own work commitments and may cost you money or time you can’t afford to lose.
8. Make sure you take breaks.
Flexible schedules let you take breaks when needed. Short breaks recharge you and often help you overcome creative blocks. Step away from your desk for a walk, a snack, or a few minutes of rest to return with renewed focus.
