How Long-Term Travel Affects Your Taxes: Reporting $5,130 in Business Income

We finally fixed the truck, but now it’s broken again. Ugh…

Hello everyone — happy Monday. I had a very lazy weekend and didn’t get much done. I’ve been under the weather for the past week and I’m hoping to feel better soon.

The weather has been unpredictable lately, swinging from 90 degrees to 45 degrees, which has made my allergies act up. It’s been a rough season for sniffles and sneezes.

I’m excited for FinCon this week. It’s my first blogging conference and I can’t wait to meet people in person. With everything going on around the Cardinals and baseball in St. Louis, it should be a lively event.

Travel has been on our minds a lot. Soon we’ll head to Chicago to see family, and after that we’re planning a trip to St. Thomas. We’re also hoping to visit Colorado and several other states this year.

We’ve been seriously considering some long-term travel, but I’m a bit nervous. Long trips require a lot of planning and can be expensive. If you’ve done extended travel, what should I know? What are your favorite travel blogs or resources?

Spending

We haven’t made many purchases in the last couple of weeks, though I do plan to buy a new laptop soon. My current Mac is old and not as reliable as I need it to be.

Food expenses have remained low. We spent $150 recently on groceries, which included dog food and should last us for a while.

Business Income

Business income has been strong. I added two sizable gigs to my work this month. I’m also thinking about how to share my business income publicly in a way that feels secure and safe. Any suggestions on what I should do?

I plan to grow the business further — I’m used to staying busy and working, and I enjoy having projects to focus on.

If you need help with a website or online project, check my Hire Me page and tell me which services interest you. Recently, website owners have asked me to manage their sites while they’re away for a month or two, and I’ve started offering that as a service. If you’re starting a new job, expecting a baby, planning extended travel, or simply need temporary website management, reach out.

Health and Fitness

My health routine hasn’t been great lately. I’ve been keeping up with reasonably healthy eating, but I haven’t worked out in weeks. Being sick this past week made exercising the last thing I wanted to do.

I’m determined to get back on track once I feel better and reintroduce regular workouts into my routine.

Wedding Planning

Wedding planning has taken a back seat for a while. So far I’ve only paid for the dress and the photographer, and the wedding is less than eight months away — yikes!

I’m leaning toward a soft peach as the main color. The bridesmaids will each choose their own dresses; I’m flexible so long as the styles are the same length and made of similar fabric.

Goals for this month include completing the save-the-dates and finding a caterer. I also need to secure a DJ and arrange rentals for a tent, chairs, and tables. Other details can wait a bit longer.

How are you doing with extra income, spending, and staying healthy?
