How I Scaled My Blog to 100,000 Monthly Page Views in 8 Months

Hello! Today I’m sharing a fantastic contribution from a reader, Madeline, who explains how she grew her blog to 100,000 monthly pageviews. Enjoy!

Is blogging really worth it? Can you genuinely earn a good income from blogging? Can you attract substantial pageviews without paying for ads?

Those were the questions I typed into Google a few years ago while trying to grow the successful blog I dreamed of creating.

Hi — I’m Madeline, a toddler mum in the UK and the creator of CappuccinoandFashion.com. I write about blogging strategies and social media tips on my blog and share fashion inspiration on Instagram.

I didn’t realize blogging could become a full-time career when I began. I simply loved reading other people’s blogs and felt passionate about writing, so I decided to try it myself.

I started my blog more than eight years ago as a hobby. Back then it was a personal style diary and didn’t grow at all because I didn’t know how to attract traffic or how to rank posts on Google.

How I started blogging

I began on the Blogger platform eight years ago, which I wouldn’t recommend now. My early posts were only a few outfit pictures and a few words, so they never ranked in Google or brought traffic.

I spent years publishing content regularly without seeing meaningful results. I was on a hamster wheel of effort and little return until I decided to get serious.

Where I was three years ago

When I committed to growing my blog, I moved to a self-hosted WordPress site — the best platform today if you want to treat a blog as a business.

At that time I’d recently become a mother and didn’t want to return to a 9-to-5 after maternity leave. I started thinking strategically about how blogging could replace my previous income and allow me to spend more time at home with my son.

That turning point — wanting to be present for my child and build a flexible income — gave me the motivation to take blogging seriously. Having a clear goal or vision of the life you want makes it far easier to commit and follow through.

Where I am now

After deciding to treat blogging like a business, I read and researched everything I could. I tested many tactics to find what worked for my site and how to monetize it effectively.

Seeing income reports from established bloggers showed me that full-time blogging was possible if I could grow traffic and be strategic about monetization. Three years ago I hadn’t even installed Google Analytics, so I had little idea of my real traffic.

Once I installed Analytics and implemented the right strategies, I grew my blog from almost zero to 100,000 monthly pageviews in eight months. I share a step-by-step plan in my free 12 month blog plan.

Blogging is now my full-time job and the most rewarding career choice I’ve made. I now earn more than from my previous 9-to-5 while working fewer hours and having the freedom to watch my son grow.

How I grew my blog

Why blogging

I chose blogging because I love the community and enjoy writing. It’s deeply satisfying to help others through useful content and practical advice.

A blog is also valuable because you own it. Unlike social media, where algorithms and account problems can cut off reach overnight, a blog is a stable, controlled platform with multiple monetization options beyond sponsored social posts.

The seven steps I took to reach 100,000 monthly views in eight months

Growing traffic becomes achievable when you focus on the right strategies and avoid distractions. For example, obsessing over logo tweaks for a week is a waste of time — content, discoverability and strategy matter far more.

Here are the seven steps that helped me reach full-time blogging success.

Google Analytics

Step 1: Define your niche

People often cringe at the word “niche,” but having a focused topic helps a blog grow. A clear niche tells Google what your blog is about, improving your chances to rank, and helps your related social accounts perform better.

Your niche can be as simple as two to three main topics you consistently cover, or a specific audience you target. You can start broader and refine what works over time.

Pinterest strategy

Step 2: Build a solid Pinterest strategy

Pinterest is one of the best traffic channels for beginner bloggers. While Google rankings take time, Pinterest can get your content seen quickly and drive thousands of visits.

Optimize your Pinterest profile so people instantly understand what your account offers. Tips include:

  • Clear profile picture – Use a photo of yourself or a simple logo that remains recognizable on mobile.
  • Descriptive display name – Add 3–5 keywords or phrases that describe your main topics to improve discoverability.
  • Optimized profile description – Include niche-relevant keywords and mention a lead magnet to convert visitors to your email list.

Create topic-specific boards and eye-catching pin designs. Combine strong visuals with compelling topics to increase saves and clicks through to your blog.

Step 3: Learn SEO fundamentals

SEO requires planning: a clear site structure, pillar posts, and smart internal linking all help your chances of ranking on Google. Google traffic is more stable and long-lasting than social traffic.

Site speed also matters. Your blog doesn’t need to be the absolute fastest, but it should load quickly enough to keep readers from bouncing.

Practical SEO steps to implement now:

  • Choose an SEO-friendly theme – Simpler is often better, and mobile friendliness is essential.
  • Add alt tags to images – Describe images using relevant keywords to support ranking.
  • Optimize images – Resize and compress images before uploading and use an optimizer plugin like ShortPixel to reduce load time.

Step 4: Master keyword research

Optimizing your blog is useless if you write about topics nobody searches for. Learn to find keywords with good search volume but low competition so new posts can rank more easily.

Targeting the right keywords—those people are actually searching for—helps your posts attract traffic from Google. This keyword research process is covered in depth in my Blogging Secrets course.

Step 5: Connect with other bloggers

Networking with bloggers in your niche or in related niches helps you grow through shared traffic, knowledge, and motivation. Being part of the blogger community provides support and practical tips from people a few steps ahead of you.

Ways to connect:

  • Comment on related blogs.
  • Join relevant Facebook groups and participate in conversations.
  • Subscribe to others’ email lists and reply to their emails.
  • Find and engage with bloggers on Instagram via hashtags, comments, or direct messages.
  • Attend online or in-person blogger networking events.

Step 6: Prioritize quality, long-form content

Blogging today demands valuable, in-depth posts that solve readers’ problems. Short, 300-word posts generally won’t perform; aim for long-form content of at least 1,000 words that offers real value.

Long posts keep readers on your site longer, provide comprehensive solutions, and improve the chance of ranking in search results.

Step 7: Double down on what works

When a post performs well, create more content in the same area. Use Google Analytics and Pinterest analytics to identify your top-performing posts, then expand on those topics with spin-offs, series, or deeper guides.

Doubling down on proven topics multiplies your growth and helps build momentum month after month.

How to grow your own blog audience

Taking blogging seriously and treating it like a business changed my life. If you want to grow a blog, commit time to it and fit it into your schedule. Focus on the right strategies and persevere.

Growing traffic and turning your blog into a reliable revenue stream is achievable with consistent effort. It’s incredible that many of us can now work from home, sometimes in pajamas, and build income streams that provide greater financial freedom.
