Outsourcing is something it took me a while to embrace. For a long time I tried to handle nearly everything on my own, even when it wasn’t the best use of my time.
Eventually I noticed I was routinely working 12-hour days and getting short with people because I was so absorbed in work. Even off the clock I was exhausted and mentally tied to my business. Anyone who’s self-employed knows it’s easy to feel like you never truly get a day off. Loving your work doesn’t make constant work healthy.
Taking breaks and regaining balance became essential.
Since I started delegating more, my life has changed for the better. I eat healthier, exercise more, and actually have true days off. The main reason for this shift has been outsourcing.
Over the past months I’ve gradually outsourced more tasks—both business and household. While I still value frugality and tracking expenses, selectively outsourcing tasks that free up time and improve life or business can be a smart move when you can afford it.
Some examples of what I outsource: content writing for the other sites I own, technical site management (thanks, Grayson!), virtual assistant work, lawn care, and a variety of small tasks. Learning to let go of some responsibilities has meaningfully improved my routine and wellbeing.
Below are several key benefits of outsourcing household chores and business tasks.
1. Outsourcing gives you back valuable time.
Who couldn’t use more time?
Delegating tasks can return hours to your week or even your day. That recovered time can be invested in family, hobbies, health, or strategic work that actually grows your business. Instead of being bogged down by routine duties, you can focus on higher-value activities.
2. Outsourcing lets you focus on the bigger picture.
When routine or technical tasks are handled by others, you gain time to concentrate on long-term strategy and important priorities. In my experience, delegating non-core work has helped accelerate growth because I could spend more hours planning, creating content, and developing initiatives that move the needle.
3. Outsourcing frees you from tasks you dislike.
Everyone has chores or responsibilities they dread. Outsourcing those tasks eliminates the friction and resentment they cause and frees you to spend more time on things you enjoy and do well.
4. Outsourcing is smart when you lack expertise.
Too many people attempt complex tasks without the necessary skills—acting as their own lawyer, accountant, or developer, for example. Sometimes that’s fine, but other times it risks costly mistakes or wasted time. When a task would take you far longer than an expert, or when errors would be expensive, hiring a specialist makes practical sense.
5. Outsourcing can increase your earnings potential.
Time is money. Before delegating, consider how much your time is worth. If you earn $30 an hour but can outsource a task for $15 an hour, outsourcing might free you to do more revenue-generating work. For businesses to scale, hiring or outsourcing is often necessary—delegating operational tasks allows you to focus on growth, sales, and strategic work that increases income.
By freeing up your schedule through outsourcing, you create more opportunities to earn, expand your business, or simply enjoy life outside of work.
Do you outsource work or household tasks, or do you prefer to save the money and handle them yourself?
