Monthly Updates: Spending, Income, Lifestyle & Food Trends

Hello everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend.

We attended a bonfire on Saturday and had an inexpensive but very enjoyable weekend. Those low-cost, high-fun weekends are the best.

I didn’t get to the work I brought home as planned. The weekend seemed to fly by, and before I knew it there wasn’t time to do any of it. Such is life.

My updates:

Spending: We did some shopping last week, but nothing excessive. Right now our goal is to avoid making any unnecessary purchases. “Need” can be subjective, so we’re trying to be intentional about distinguishing wants from needs so we can save more for the holidays.

Extra monthly income (beyond my job salary): Extra income was strong again this week — I made about $800. I’m curious how long this level of extra work will continue or whether it will taper off suddenly.

My plan is to direct nearly all of this extra income toward my student loans so I can pay them down faster.

Food: We’ve improved a lot here. I think we only ate out twice this past week, which is a big win for us. Our goal is to eat out just once this coming week.

We’re well stocked on groceries; we don’t need anything additional right now. Last week we spent roughly $100 on groceries and about $50 on eating out. Since we won’t buy extras this week and plan to eat out only once, our food spending for two weeks should be around $175 — a solid improvement for us. How has your food spending been going lately?

Being healthy: I slipped up here. I didn’t manage to go for a run even once. Time seems to disappear. On the plus side, I started the Insanity workout program last week. The first session wiped me out and I couldn’t finish, but I’ll keep at it to build endurance.

How are your spending, workouts, and extra income coming along?
